Target: Crew on ships appointed to man or to command a life raft or life boat.
Admission: Valid health certificate for seafarers, 18 years of age, completed a basic safety course for seafarers and understand Faroese.
Remember to send us all the above mentioned documents when registrating - or you just bring them when the course begins.
Objective: To make course participants enable to take command a life boat: embarkation of people from offshore industry, ships etc as well as launching and sailing way from the ship or drilling unit.
Contents: Theoretical part:
- Basic first aid - artificial respiration and hypothermia
- Drilling with life boat – i.e. launching and recovery, manouvering, knowledge of boat and equipment, recovering people from the sea and treating them on board the life boat as well as communication.
- Drilling with life raft– i.e. launching, manouvering, knowledge of boat and equipment, recovering people from the sea and treating them on board the life raft; righting a life raft
- Rescue with helicopter
- Personnal safety equipment
Life boat – i.e. launching, embarking, manouvering, knowledge of the life boat and its equipment, recovering people from the sea and treating them on board, recovery of life boat and communication.
Life raft – i.e. launching, embarking, recovering people from the sea, be aquianted with the equipment on board, righting the life raft and PPE.
Lenght of course: 3 days.
Certificate: Printed out when course is completed.
Validity: 5 years.
Number of course participants: Minimum 3; maximum 6.
Self-tuition: Not possible on this course. We don´t consider it prudent to offer self-tuition because this course is very important and consists of mainly practical excercises with high qualification requirements.
Learning: When fully booked the basic course takes 24 hours - i.e. 3 days of 8 hours each. The course participant aquires proficiency and competency needed to be a part of the crew of a life boat.
Sjónám has highly competent and experienced instructors who are able to combine traditional teaching with the practical reality.
The course is arranged to make the theory and the practical training walk hand in hand. The competence are achieved with good training and good facilities. The instructors follow the participants closely throughout the entire course.
All-in-all this is an exciting course fo seafarers who want basic training to man a life boat.
