Basic/refresher safety course for crew members on merchant and fishing vessels.
General information: Bring your health certificate for seafarers when registering. If renewal is required, bring your old certificate.
Cancellations must be made by email no later than 3 business days prior to the start of the course to allow others to book your place and to reimburse your course fee.
Endorsement: STCW 78 A-VI/1-1, 1-3, 1-4, incl. Manila 2010 amendments.
Fishing vessels: Crew members on fishing vessels that do not require self-contained breathing apparatuses may be exempt from the advanced fire fighting requirement pursuant to STCW A-VI/1-2. If fire fighting is required, this unit must be completed with another course provider.
Merchant ships: Fire fighting requirement pursuant to STCW A-VI/1-2 must be completed with another course provider.
Applicable to: All seafarers.
Entry requirements: Valid health certificate for seafarers. The course is taught in the Faroese language, meaning that those who do not understand Faroese can only participate with the aid of an interpreter.
Objective: To teach participants to operate and maintain safety equipment and to provide appropriate instruction on personal safety and responsibilities with the aim of improving the ability of seafarers to prevent accidents and handle distress situations.
Upon course completion, participants should have achieved the ability to perform self-rescue and effect rescue of others in distress.
Participants will learn about:
- Location devices on ships
- Muster plans – structure and operation
- Inflatable life raft and associated equipment
- Hydrostatic release units (HRUs) – function/operation and installation
- Elementary first aid
Contents: Participants will learn about:
- Alarms and mustering
- Inflatable life rafts
- Equipment in inflatable life rafts
- Personal safety and safety equipment
- Practical drills with inflatable life rafts and rescue equipment
- first aid
Number of participants: Minimum 3. Maximum 16.
Self-study: This course is not available on a home study or partial home study basis. Offering our seafarers home study on important and practically oriented subjects with high skill requirements is not deemed advisable
Course structure: The fully subscribed refresher course in STCW 78 A-VI/1-1, 1-3, 1-4 is scheduled for 16 hours over 2 days of instruction. Participants will attain the knowledge and skills required of a crew member on ships.
